- Skin from a human donor
- Temporary; prepares the wound bed for an autograft (the patient’s own skin)
- Removed and replaced when the wound bed is ready
Appearance
- Meshed/web-like appearance
- May vary in color depending on the donor’s skin color
- Fully reabsorbs into the wound over 4-6 weeks
Dressing Frequency
- Change daily
Dressing Care
- Gently cleanse with chlorhexidine soap by drizzling over the wound
- Rinse with Vashe
- Cover with Mepitel, Vashe-soaked gauze, and dry gauze or ABD
- Wrap with Kerlix
- Important: DO NOT APPLY SILVADENE
Next Steps
- Patient will proceed to split-thickness skin graft/autograft in 1 week if the wound bed is ready.
